How to fit my MODMO ebike

Which size bike is right for you? How should you adjust it to your own particular body shape? Why does it matter?

A key consideration when buying a MODMO ebike, or in fact any bike, is the fit relative to your body. Without the right fit, cycling can be painful and difficult, so it’s important to make sure that you have the correct bicycle size and set-up for your body.

Here is a rundown of how to do this with our Saigon ebikes, from choosing the right frame size to adjusting the saddle.

Buy the right bike size

This is number one! We offer three options for our e-bikes - small, medium and large - at industry standard dimensions, so when you visit one of our Saigon product pages make sure you select the right e-bike size before you order. There are a number of ways to determine this.

1. First, measure the height of your legs relative to the bicycle frame.

This is the oldest and most time-tested method of measuring a bicycle to fit your body. It matches the length of your in-seam to the bicycle’s top tube height. There often needs to be a little bit of clearance between your crotch and the top tube - make sure you allow for this when choosing your bike.

2. Check your height

The next step is to measure your height. Ensure that this is as accurate as possible, as you will combine it with your step-over height to determine the frame size you need.

3. Check your measurements

Take your two measurements and use them against the following numbers to assess which bike is the right size for you:

Adjust the saddle

Once your Saigon ebike has arrived and you’ve set it up, turn your attention to the saddle. To fit your bike correctly, it’s important to make sure the saddle is at the right height, tilt and angle for your body.

To adjust the height, stand over the bike as though you are about to sit on it, place your heel on the pedal and push it to the lowest position where your leg is completely straight and adjust the saddle height so that it sits just under your crotch.

Then take a look at your saddle setback - does it need to be moved forwards or backwards a little? The easiest way to determine this is to look at the position of your knee when your pedal stroke is at 3 o’clock. Check where your knee is sitting and adjust the saddle’s position by pushing it forwards or backwards until your knee is resting directly above your forefoot.

Finally, adjust the tilt of your saddle. Generally speaking you want to find a position that is perfectly level with the ground, but if you feel any pain in your crotch or lower back you may want to adjust the tilt upwards or downwards to redistribute the balance of your weight on the saddle.
